University of Mary
Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a minor in Catholic studies in May 2016
At first, Hannah Houle was hesitant about attending the University of Mary because of the distance between the Bismarck, N.D., school and her hometown of Redwood Falls, Minn. But the first-year student is glad that didn’t stop her. Since attending U-Mary, she’s found a caring faculty, a variety of clubs, and future opportunities to study abroad in Rome, as well as the Christ-centered education that she was looking for in a university.
Question: Why did you decide to attend the University of Mary? Was it important for you to attend a Catholic university?
Houle: “I really didn’t think that the University of Mary would be the college for me because it is a long distance from home. As a last option, I visited in May and realized that this is the school where I would grow not only academically but also in my Catholic faith, which was a great deciding factor for me.”
Question: In what ways has the school met your expectations?
Houle: “This school has exceeded my expectations in how much they listen and care about the student. The University of Mary’s faculty and staff go out of their way to get to know the students individually.”
Question: What are some of the best learning experiences you’ve had as a student at U-Mary?
Houle: “The University of Mary challenges me academically, but not beyond anything that I am capable of. In the classroom I am engaged in learning not only about the topic, but also why it functions the way it does and how it affects me.”
Question: What are some non-academic experiences you’ve been able to pursue?
Houle: “Outside of the classroom I am involved in student government, Vera Forma, FOCUS Bible Study, and I also work as a student ambassador. With each of these activities I have enjoyed planning events for students in student government as well as representing them. I have learned so much about my faith through FOCUS, and I enjoy recruiting new students as an ambassador.”
Question: Would you recommend U-Mary to prospective students? If so, why?
Houle: “I would absolutely recommend the University of Mary to prospective students. It is a place where one can grow in faith and in academics. This university will instill in students a sense of how life is best lived with purpose, and empower students to have a bright future leading to the ultimate goal, Christ.”
